Naw I hear that. The same people who try to use tragedy of the commons to debunk communism also say "everything that called itself communism is communism" whether or not it actually, well, was communism. I am the first to call out a "No True Scotsman" argument, but when something like communism has an actual definition, and something else that calls itself "communism" ultimately doesn't actually match that definition, it's hardly fair to use it as an example of why communism is inherently bad.
It's like people who try to say socialism must be bad because the Nazis had "socialist" in their name, despite the fact that they were in no way actually socialist. I want to ask those people: does the fact that North Korea calls itself the "Democratic People's Republic" make democracy bad?
