I celebrated by working for 11 hours. I don't even hate this holiday because I'm single, working in the food/service industry is reason enough.

Usually I am not that cynical about my line of work (I like my job! It is not so bad!). But I kinda got fucked these last couple weeks, because the only other line cook at the restaurant I work at went on a week long vacation during the time immediately before Valentine's day (significantly, the period of time where a large amount of prep work must be done in addition to the regular, already sizable responsibilities she and I share). So I got to work five days, take one day off, and then work seven more days, mostly 10-11 hour shifts, busting my ass the whole time so I could get out early enough to at least catch 8 hours of sleep each night (this is the most important thing to do during spells like this, I have found). I even managed to take my trash out once. Anyway, after I work one last shift tomorrow, I have two freaking days off to decompress. And I'm going to make some pretty good scratch out of this, as I actually do get paid overtime here, thank god.
Also, the other line cook is getting written up/talked to by the Chef, mostly for not working very hard once she finally got back (bad move in a room full of tired, grumpy people who have been covering for your ass). That feels pretty good.

You've earned plenty of brownie points, by the sound of it; the spondolicks are an added bonus. :) Enjoy the break!

I don't think I belong in this thread. I'll leave now.
