Saw him in concert back when I was in high school. Glad of it then, super glad of it now. RIP, :(

God damn, do I love Desmond's sound. I hate the 70's and 80's for making saxes think they shouldn't play that way.

Ha ha, I like those sax-noises (SEE WHAT I DID THERE) too.
Or, wait... are you talking the skreedly-skronkity free jazz saxophone sound, or are you talking like, "Baker Street" and Kenny G and such. 'Cause I know which kind of 70's/80's sax sound I was thinking of!

I should preface this by saying that my jazz history is pretty spotty, but I'm talking about that lazer-focus, high-intensity sound. Don't get me wrong, that sound has a place and it works well (example:
http://youtu.be/n6jCJZEFIto?t=1m45s), but as far as I'm aware it kind of crowded out the softer Desmond sound.
