I wonder if de-restricted TLDs will take a while to catch on, though. Even when options like .org and .net actually made for sensible choices, most people still wanted .com because it felt more internetty. That mindset might persist for a little while yet, especially if programs don't automatically recognise URLs with weird endings and convert them to hyperlinks.
